It was a warm September day and only the first week of classes at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Of course, Caleb Black had never truly been one for academics, so it was no surprise that he was outside and avoiding the school entirely. He knew that come winter they would be practically snowed into the school, so he might as well get his fun outdoors while he still had the chance. And he was taking full advantage of it.
While normally in the company of a handful of his closest trouble making friends, Cale decided to go it alone for once. These were the only times when he would actually think with a calm and straight mind, especially when it was thinking about anything that was troubling him. He had never been the type to cry to others, or even to let anyone else know that anything was bothering him. He preferred to keep everything bottled up to himself and only show his mischievous side to all others around him.
At the moment, he wasn't particularly bothered by anything, he simply wanted a bit of time to himself. He had spent the entire summer entertaining his friends at his family's summer cottage on the shore. He normally got the occasional stroll alone on the family's beach, but he had been too busy this past summer, so he was taking that stroll now. He was thinking about the girlfriend he never had; how his friends all seemed to be pairing off with some girl or other, and the one that he actually wanted avoided him like dragon pox. He knew he was doing something wrong, but he wasn't about to change his attitude - that just wasn't the way he did things.
To break this annoying mood he was in, Caleb pulled some dung bombs from his pockets and tossed them into the lake just to see what would happen. He found it very amusing that the circular lumps floated on top of the water like real dung in a loo. He also found it funny that a tentacle belonging to the lake's resident giant squid lazily scooped the lot of them up and dragged them under water. He was bent over laughing at the thought of the stupid creature eating the balls of dung when they came shooting back up out of the water towards him. Though he was laughing even harder now, he managed to dodge most of them; the ones he couldn't he blasted away with his wand. The only thing that could make this moment even more enjoyable would be if there just happened to be someone standing some distance behind him to catch the dung bombs the squid had missed him with.

Due to the currently warm weather Hogwarts was enjoying, vestigial from the recently ended summer, Nymphadora Potter sought relaxation beside lake. Of course, she wasn't technically next to the lake. Clad in cut offs of the pants all male students were issued (they were a hand-me down from her older brother Harry), Dora looked out across the deep waters of the lake, her idle fingers toying with one of the threads from her knee length pants. The sixteen year old was resting casually against the trunk of the sturdy tree she'd chosen for her perch, bare legs swinging in empty air. Beneath her, a young man approached and then began to brood.
Dora was also in a rather reflective mood. The summer had been interesting, to be concise. The boy below her, Caleb Black, was one of her closest childhood friends but since the summer she wasn't sure if they were friends anymore. Or at least, if they were only friends. He'd been down on his family's beach one evening, and Dora, who's own family had stopped by for the weekend, had gone barefoot to the sea. They'd talked some and then, as they were about to return to the house, he'd kissed her. Or was it she who'd kissed him first? Dora wasn't sure she remembered it all that clearly.
Tossing her mind back to the figure of Cale below her, she watched him take out a couple of dung bombs and toss them into the lake. Snickering to herself, Dora was glad when the squid threw them back at her mischievious relative. He deserves it, she thought to herself, glad to see the boy who'd taken the mickey outa her every time they met get some of his own medicine back. Snatching a stray dung bomb out of the air as it flew past her, the young woman waited till Caleb had dodged right below her to drop it straight onto his head.
Leaning back against the trunk, Dora braced herself and tucked her legs beneath her, attempting to become invisible against the tree's righ foliage. Peering out between the leaves, she watched to see how Caleb would react.

So everything was going great for Caleb Black on this fine summer afternoon. He was having a good laugh out by the lake, supposedly all by himself. His bubble was burst, however, when he felt the splatter of a dung bomb exploding on the top of his head. Now, he was well aware that he had just thrown a load of them into the lake, as well as the fact that the giant squid had thrown them right back. What got him was the direction from which the stinky little thing had come from.
You see, rather than coming from in front of him, it had come from above. It thoroughly confused the boy until he turned his gaze upwards to see a figure crouched on a thick branch. Since the other student was curled up and obviously trying to hide from him, he couldn't tell who it was. Like always, he acted upon his first thought and pointed his wand upwards. Since he saw pants instead of undies under a skirt, he assumed that it was a boy who had thrown the bomb at him, since the rest of their body was hidden behind a curtain of leaves.
With the swish and flick of his wand and a small incantation of wingardium leviosa, he aimed to levitate whoever was up there and toss them into the lake. However, once he brought the student out from the cover of the tree's leaves, he noticed the long brown hair and soon turned her so that he could see her familiar face. A smirk tugged across his lips at the recognition, and he decided that he was going to toy with her for a while. He rather liked teasing Dora, and though he may deny it whenever her twin, Nick, gives him grief about it, he does do it because he cares for her.
The fact of the matter is that Caleb Black has never really been an affectionate sort of guy. He has never shown any real emotions towards others in a way that one would most expect. Instead, he shows his affections and his dislikes in the form of jokes. Though the jokes come on different scales depending on how much or how little he likes someone. The more harmful ones are usually reserved for those Cale can't stand, and are usually accompanied by foul insults whereas the more he likes someone, the more he tries to get them to laugh. These are usually accompanied by simpler jokes aimed to make the individual he's picking at laugh at themselves.
"So, think you can pull one over on me do you Nymphadora?" Caleb asked her, putting a little edge on her name as he knew how much she detested it. "It's a pity you aren't wearing your skirt. I bet the boys two sickles that you weren't wearing any knickers today." he finished in a joking manner. For him it was obviously a joke as he would never make such a bet, but he was subconsciously hinting at how much he really would like to see her in or out of her underthings.

Dora's private giggles and ruminations in her attempts to wipe the stinky stuff left over on her hands off were interrupted by the fact that she was no longer actually in the tree. Yelping as she found herself swung out from her cozy little branch, her long hair flipped over her shoulders and got in her face. Spitting it out and blinking it away from her eyes, her fiercely glaring blue eyes tried to get a solid grip on her attacker.
Locking eyes on Caleb's smirk, Dora knew she was not going to be happy with the out come of this meeting. Keeping her instinctive grimace at the use of her name to herself, she refused to give him the satisfaction of seeing her miffed about her name. It wasn't that Dora loathed her full name, she just didn't find it all that attractive. She'd always wondered, as the technical third Potter offspring and first girl, how her father had allowed Andromeda (who commonly went by Andie in the first place) to name their eldest daughter Nymphadora. Why couldn't they have chosen something more normal, like Harry and Nicolas got?
Puffing the last piece of hair away from her mouth Dora attempted as much dignity as she could have in the air. Hands on her hips, her gaze glared with the experience of one who was to little or to weak to fight back with physical force. "Yes, no skirt today, Caleb," she replied, using the same force on his name as he had on hers, even if he didn't hate it the way she disliked hers. "Besides, you don't need a visual recognition to know that I'm wearing pink and red knickers. You just had to ask."
Lifting her chin with a smirk playing around her lips, Dora watched for Caleb's reaction. She supposed he hadn't actually expected her to tell him outright what undergarments she was wearing. Frankly, Dora couldn't care if the entire school knew what panties she'd chosen that day, just so long as they didn't actually see her pantsless.

"That really is too bad," Caleb said when Dora confirmed her lack of a skirt. "I really do wish I could have checked myself. Then again," he paused as he moved his wand just a tad to order his spell to tilt the other young teenager in the air, "I could still check. Who knows if you're lying or actually telling the truth."
He was smiling, and just teasing her, but he knew that she always took his jokes a bit too seriously. He didn't really want to deviate from his norm, but after their first kiss on the beach of his family summer home, he was itching for more. Not to mention the fact that she was clumsy enough for him to just leave her on the ground to get a good laugh at her.
So, against his better judgment, he lowered his wand to take her to just about a foot above the ground. He could have easily just tossed her into the lake. Perhaps he still might as tha was a grand idea. But as for right now, he wanted to see how well his luck would turn out if he treated her like he did his closest friends rather than what he did normally with her. After all, it had worked over the summer, why not now?
Besides, it wasn't like there was anyone else around to see him being nice to her, so his reputation would still be in tact. He wouldn't worry about her telling anyone either because no one would believe her anyway. No one in their right mind would believe her if she told them that Caleb Black was being decent to her; not after all these years of him tormenting her from dawn till dusk.
He wasn't going to just let her down though, she was going to have to work for it she wanted it, and even then he wouldn't let her down too nicely. If she did manage to get down, it would be a bit of a fall, even if it was only the single foot that was currently left between her and the ground at the current time. He just wanted to see her squirm, and his mind began thinking up other ways in which he could do entice such a reaction from her.

Trying not to wobble too much as Caleb tilted her, Dora attempted to retain whatever meager dignity she might have left from this whole incident. Something was going on and she wasn’t sure what. First of all, Cale wouldn’t have simply threatened to check, normally, he would’ve just gone and pantsed her. Not that Dora was one to care very much just as long as he left her undergarments on. For all the young witch cared, she could walk around Hogwarts in just her bra and knickers. It wasn’t as if she had a terrible figure, either. Still, there was something fishy about how nice Caleb was treating her. Typically, he liked getting a rise out of her and Dora was more than willing to give it to him.
True, she thought to herself as she looked about their surroundings, there was no one else near them which meant Caleb wasn’t trying to buff up his reputation as one who teased Dora mercilessly, but there was no real reason for him to be so…nice. “What are you playing at, Black?” she asked, glaring at him down her nose. Hands on her hips, she casually fingered the end of her wand with her thumb where it was sticking out of her back pocket. Worst came to worst, she’d just hex him and screw whatever sprain she might get when she fell.
He was a handsome devil, that Caleb Black, and there was no way Dora was ever able to ignore it. Even before she realized she liked him, there were plenty of girls oohing and ahhing in the corridors whenever he passed them by. In Hufflepuff House it was no secret that Dora and her family were close with Caleb’s. Unfortunately, this lead to swarms of girls who wanted to try and snag any of her male family friends or relatives approaching poor Dora for advice and info. It was almost enough to make her retch at the asinine way those girls cooed over boys.
“You’re never nice to me, ever, Dora went on, rolling her eyes. “Tolerable, sometimes, maybe, but not nice. It’s so unlike you. You must have an angle or something. Dora drawled, as if she didn’t care what Caleb wanted from her, doing a rather decent job of hiding just how anxious she was inside. She, despite years of being the klutzy, sweet, fiery, rough and tumble girl, was still a sixteen year old who wanted a certain someone to like her, and maybe someday more than just like her. Maybe even love her. And in the dark of the night, that thought could scare a girl like Nymphadora Potter.
